Rohan McCarthy-Gill

Institution: University of Sussex

Profile: I am the Head of Global Mobility at the University of Sussex, and have been working in international and higher education for 21 years in British and Australian universities. Primarily, I’ve spent most of my career so far managing study abroad and international student recruitment teams, though I’ve also been involved in student services and advising, transnational education and residential housing. My interest in study abroad started when I studied abroad myself during my university degree, undertaking an immersive Arabic language semester in Kuwait City.

Institution: Nottingham Trent University

Profile: I am the International Mobility Manager at the Nottingham Trent University and have been working in International Education field for the past nine years. In my role I lead on management and development of student mobility programmes at NTU. I am a co-chair of Study Abroad Forum, I manage a large scale Global Opportunities Showcase and also oversee the University’s relationship with the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP). I am passionate about the internationalisation, intercultural communication and I enjoy working with international students.

Profile: I’m originally from a small town close to Florence, Italy. I moved to the UK in 2014 and started working at the University of Sussex in 2016. I initially worked in Finance and joined the Global Mobility Team in March 2021, covering the role of Study Abroad Assistant for Inbound students welcoming an average of 400 students per year. My role includes organising social events, liaising with partner universities and marketing and promotional activities for both inbound and outbound students. I love working in Global Mobility as I strongly believe in the importance of global awareness, gaining a perspective of different cultures and learning self-reliance.

Profile: After completing my Undergraduate degree at the University of Southampton, I have been working there for nearly 6 years now. I have been working in the International Office for nearly 4 years with the last 2 being in the Study Abroad and Exchange Team. I started as the co-ordinator for outbound activity and I am now the Study Abroad and Exchanges Manager at the University of Southampton, in charge of overseeing and developing all study abroad activities.

Profile: Owing to staff changes, the Committee will be working with several colleagues from the University of York Study Abroad Team to deliver the 2022 Conference and so there will be no formal Conference Officer.

Institution: University of Birmingham

I am an experienced university officer with a strong international outlook. I have project managed the establishment of a joint institute in China, an international college in the West Midlands region, and an international summer school for students from across the globe. Currently, I support student and staff mobility, including funding opportunities such as Erasmus+.

Profile: I have lived, worked and/or studied in the Netherlands, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Australia and joined the University of Salford in May 2018 where I manage inbound and outbound exchanges (International Exchange, Erasmus+ and Study Abroad) as well as Internationalisation at Home activities.

Profile: I have been working as a Global Programmes Officer at York for the last five years. I have worked on worldwide student exchange, as well as managing and taking students out on our short summer study programmes, the International Study Centres. For the past year I have been working primarily on summer options, including study, volunteering and international internships.

Colette McGowan

Institution: University of Glasgow

Profile: I have worked in the field of international education for around 25 years, initially beginning my career at the University of Abertay where I worked for 2 years as International Recruitment Officer. I joined the University of Glasgow in 1998 to work as the incoming study abroad officer and following some years in that post, progressed to managing the inbound and outbound exchange programme. I moved into my current role as Study Abroad Partnerships Manager in 2019 focussing on development, recruitment, agreements and partnership liaison.
