How to be environmental friendly abroad

Travelling provides a great experience as it offers opportunities to learn from different cultures and sharing knowledge with different people. However, to travel in different places, environmental responsibility are always a priority for me. As someone who is undertaking an international placement at Copenhagen Business School, is very important to balance my the benefits of this programme but always being carful and consistent on checking how to reduce my footprint to protect the environment.

My research started once I was accepted at CBS university for my international experience, “Summer School”. First I look at the best option to go from London to Copenhagen by researching roots and which one was more environmentally sustainable. I book the flight with a company that is trying lots of different ways to reduce the pollution of the environment. This was in line with Goal 11 of UN Sustainable Development Goals, which is about “Sustainable Cities and Communities”. Furthermore I to support this goal I did my research on different options of transportation in Copenhagen, and found out quite interesting facts. On few articles that I read Copenhagen is known as city of bikes and I decided to purchase a bike on my arrival to Copenhagen to use inside the city. By doing this I will be able to support on of the 17th goals of UN.

Another focus of this trip is the focus on the 12th Goal of UN which has a specific mission on responsible consumption and production. While on my trip I plan to use reusable items such as water bottles which will cut the waste of the single use of plastic bottles. I also will follow the local guidance on disposing the wast according to local regulations to make sure everything is where supposed to be. Another plane that I have is avoid single use bags when going for groceries and instead use reusable 100% recycled shopping bag to cut the waste.

Last but not least is the support of local businesses that sources sustainably. This means cut of footprints associated with imported goods which not only will cut footprints but will strengthen the local economy. This is good for a sustainable environment and growth of a ethical economy. This will be in line with goal number 13 of UN Sustainable Development Goals and provide a more environmentally friendly approach towards travelling across different countries.

By keeping the same approach as my day to day life towards more sustainable environments even on my international trips, I hope to show that our environment responsibilities can go well beyond our current thought and we can keep a healthy world for our future generations.
