A Journey Rooted in Sustainability - My Path to South Korea

In just three months, I’ll be boarding a plane for South Korea, ready to begin my semester abroad at SolBridge International School of Business. This opportunity is not just a chance to broaden my academic and cultural horizons—it’s also a chance to align my passion for sustainability with my international business studies.
As an International Business student, I’ve always believed that sustainability should be at the core of everything we do. I see business as a powerful force for positive change, and I’m committed to ensuring my actions, both personally and professionally, contribute to a sustainable future. Before I even step on the plane, I’ve taken steps to ensure my travel is as eco-friendly as possible. I’ve carefully selected a flight that offers carbon offsets, planned to travel light, and chosen accommodation that promotes sustainable practices. I also plan to reduce my carbon footprint by primarily using public transportation, which is known for being both efficient and environmentally friendly.
South Korea offers the perfect backdrop for my journey. Known for its innovative sustainability efforts, the country is a leader in green technologies, recycling programs, and eco-friendly businesses. I’m eager to explore these initiatives firsthand and learn how I can integrate similar practices into my future career in international business. I plan to make conscious choices every day, such as reducing waste by using reusable items and opting for plant-based meals whenever possible. These small actions will allow me to live more sustainably during my time abroad.
My study abroad experience isn’t just about minimizing my environmental impact—it’s about learning how businesses can actively contribute to global sustainability. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a guiding framework in my studies, particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). South Korea’s efforts in sustainable business practices provide a unique opportunity to explore how global companies are aligning with these goals. I hope to bring back lessons on innovation and sustainability to share with my peers and professors back in the UK.
What excites me most about this opportunity is the chance to collaborate with people from all over the world. Sustainability is a global issue that requires global solutions, and I’m eager to learn from others’ perspectives and share ideas. The connections I make in South Korea will enrich my understanding of how businesses can drive change and contribute to a more sustainable world.
Receiving the BUTEX Sustainability Abroad Scholarship would allow me to turn my passion for sustainability into tangible action, supporting both my academic and personal goals. It would be an honor to be part of a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to making travel, business, and life itself more sustainable for future generations. This scholarship would not only help fund my studies but also allow me to continue building a career where sustainability is at the heart of everything I do.
