Law shapes public awareness of environmental protection, which drives me to design a fully sustainable travel plan for my exchange study at the University of Aberdeen. My practices closely tie to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, as I aim to cut carbon emissions in daily commuting and spread eco-friendly concepts through legal perspectives throughout my overseas placement.
Before departing for the United Kingdom, I have already discarded disposable travel supplies and packed reusable bottles, cloth bags and tableware to eliminate single-use plastic waste. For my long-distance international flight, I choose economy class to reduce carbon footprint, and I will offset the carbon generated by this journey via official environmental programmes supported by British local organisations. Once I settle down in Aberdeen, I will completely abandon private taxis and ride-hailing cars in daily trips. Walking will be my primary option for short journeys around campus, while public buses and shared bicycles serve as my regular transport for trips across the city. Scotland boasts mature public transit systems, and I intend to make full use of these public resources to lower personal carbon output every day.
As a law student, I hope to go beyond personal eco-friendly behaviour and build cross-cultural communication around environmental legislation, which makes my sustainable travel plan distinctive from ordinary applicants. During seminars and student club activities, I plan to exchange ideas with British peers about environmental law systems in China and Scotland. I intend to discuss how legal clauses regulate citizens’ travelling choices, restrict excessive private vehicle use and encourage green public transport. These discussions let more international students realise that formal legal policies can steadily advance sustainable mobility in the long run.
When my exchange semester ends, I will sort out what I learn about British environmental governance and share my low-carbon travelling experience with fellow law students back at my home university. I will advocate sustainable travel for every outbound exchange student in my faculty, forming a lasting chain of eco-conscious action. My journey to Aberdeen is never merely academic pursuit; it turns every movement I make into small yet solid progress toward cleaner global mobility. I firmly believe individual travel habits, guided by environmental awareness and legal principles, can jointly fulfil the UN sustainable development agenda step by step.
