the travel industry is one of the highest valued sectors with the WTTC data predicting it will be valued at £11.8 trillion and support around 371 million jobs however the down side is making all the travel sustainable, On my exchange to neoma business school in Paris although there is a lot of cars and travel in the city there is a plan in place to become Europe’s greenest capital by the year 2030. In regards to my travel plans to get to my placement when in the city i aim to walk which i will be capable of doing due to the fact i have booked accomodation which is situated less than a kilometer from Paris city center ultimately reducing my carbon footprint for the duration of my stay. At the cop15
in Montreal the world travel and tourism council and the UN tourism and the sustainable hospitality alliance announced a new partnership to unite public and private sectors towards a shared nature positive vision for travel and tourism to halt and reverse the biodiversity loss by the year 2030, these goals set out by the UN not only effect humans but also marine life and all animals that have roamed the planet for decades this is why sustainability and the promotion of a healthy and clean planet are at the forefront of mine and many others minds, coming from Scotland where the land is green spacious and vast countryside with lush forests and outdoor areas i fully understand how beneficial these types of landscapes are especially for peoples mental health which in 2025 has seen a rise in situations not helped by the outbreak of covid 19. Some other measures that i will take in order to maintain an eco friendly trip is to minimise use of transport which may not be the most efficient or sustainable for example taxis or busses that are not electric, another way i plan to navigate around the city of Paris during my exchange is by cycling which further help me reduce my carbon foot print. The 17 goals set out by the UN regarding sustainability are all attainable with a little bit of getting used to while also enjoying a lifestyle which is still full of adventure. With relation to travel and the impact it has on the enviroment thrive global has noted the impact of this for example in the Uk there are plans for 8 airport expansions to increase flights despite the government aims to cut emissions by 78 per cent by 2035 in 2020 there were 40.3 million flights performed by the industry, however in France flights are regulated in order to attain there plans for 2030. https://community.thriveglobal.com/how-travel-affects-the-environment/
Finally, the need for a more sustainable travel sector is something which i feel very strongly about and i believe that with the changes being made and new legislation and protocols in place the world can maintain a good quality of life and help reduce the global impact of pollution.
