It’s good for us to walk, (SDG 3)
Whilst we do, let’s talk.
I’ll be Flying into the USA this Fall,
Booking flights with care to minimise my carbon haul.
I take the train and a plane,
Escaping the Classic English Rain.
I take the bus to campus, (SDG 13)
And think woah, I should have brought a compass.
Now I’m unpacking my room,
Whilst I catch up with my family on Zoom.
I also met my roommate – we instantly thrive.
She also recycles… what a time to be alive! (SDG 12)
The next days fly by,
I meet lots of new friends to say hi.
We to get our daily steps in,
And put any litter in the correct bin. (SDG 12)
It’s now time for the weekend break,
We decide to visit the lake.
My friends say let’s take the car,
I say no, we don’t need to go far. (SDG 13)
We swim at the lakes to cool off from the sun,
We have so much fun.
Don’t worry, we made sure our sunscreen is reef-safe! (SDG 14)

Back at Campus it’s now time for my next class,
A lesson on sustainability is something I won’t pass.
I learn about the 17 UN Sustainability Goals,
So, now I understand my role. (SDG 4)
After lunch, I head to a class on Gender Rights, (SDG 5)
Then settle in as day fades into night.
A moment of reflection to journal my day,
How is it already May?
Time just seems to run away,
I suppose that’s what happens when you make the most of each day.
I want to do some volunteering before I go return,
I will help with local food donations so we can learn. (SDG 2)
This time abroad has inspired me to think twice,
Which has encouraged me to think about our price,
Learning the SDGs gives me hope, (SDG 4)
To help our Earth and better cope.
We have just one Earth that houses us all.
We don’t want to see it fall.
