Pack lightly, traveller.
Leave room for the world.
For the road ahead has no use for pride,
Certainty is a heavy cargo,
it fills the corners of a bag.
Much too heavy
to carry into unfamiliar lands.
Fold away your assumptions Leave them neatly behind.
The world is wider
than any window
you can imagine.
Wider than the walls we have built inside ourselves.
So be patient.
Carry a bottle
that can be filled again.
Carry a mind
that can be changed again.
Be a vessel:
emptied,
refilled,
emptied again.
Leave no litter
upon the earth.
Walk gently.
Drink deeply.
Listen closely.
Return not with empty hands,
but with a heavier soul,
laden with stories,
with friendship,
with unfamiliar sounds,
having carried less of yourself into the world,
and more of the world back with you.
Only then
may it be said:
you have travelled lightly.
