From Scotland’s shore, a journey grand,
To USA’s new land, I took a stand.
No hurried flight, a train I chose,
To London town, before my plane arose.
From Heathrow’s gate to Raleigh’s light,
A Plane I took but kept my impact slight.
Then local bus, though weary I might feel,
To Chapel Hill, my purpose true and real.
For five long months, a single case I bore,
With mix-and-match outfits, seeking less and more.
My own cup, my bottle, reusable and bright,
No need for single-use, day and through the night.
A solid bar for shower, shampoo too,
A bamboo brush, for me and for you.
Less plastic waste, a conscious cleaner way,
Sustainability shining, come what may.
At farmers markets, Hillsboro’s finest fare,
With second-hand treasures, beyond compare.
Pots, pans and crockery, bedding soft and neat,
Giving old things new life, a sustainable treat.
Shorter showers, lights off when not in sight,
Warming up with thrift-shop finds, a cosy green delight.
Recycling daily, a habit I embraced,
And when it’s time to leave, no item goes to waste.
Donated to my friends, or those who needed aid,
Nothing tossed aside, a promise I had made.
Local free bus for town, my trusty green ally,
Greyhound, Amtrak journeys, passing by.
My books once read, returned to whence they came,
Second-hand journeys, playing a mindful game.
At UNC Chapel Hill I joined the green crusade,
“Don’t ditch it, donate it,” waste reduce, unafraid.
Though mobility’s a challenge, and walking can be tough,
I chose my feet and buses; it was more than enough.
For every step I took, and every ride I made,
A greener planet beckoned, a future unafraid.
From Glasgow’s buzz to Chapel Hill’s chill,
I’m making green moves with plenty of thrill
Not perfect, but hey, I’m giving my best
On this eco adventure, I’m feeling blessed
Small steps add up, like saving a light,
Choosing to bike or recycle right.
Every little change, big or small,
Helps our planet thrive and stand tall.
