My Carbon Footprint

I love my carbon footprint.

He’s small. Much smaller than most other people’s.

He’s also very clean, and I make sure that he doesn’t leave behind any mess when we’re travelling.

I have to be honest and say that he has put on a little bit of weight since I got my drivers licence, so I make sure to take him on lots of walks. However, he doesn’t like vehicles all that much, with the exception of a cheeky bus ride when the occasion calls for it. The bus is usually filled with other people who have little carbon footprints, and he enjoys interacting with others just like him.

I took him on his longest bus ride very recently when I had to travel to London for my visa interview, and he was a little frustrated about the length of the trip. However, he cheered right up when I treated him by paying a little bit extra to offset my Co2 emissions for both legs of the journey. He was also very excited to see that every seat on the bus was full, leaving him with lots of friends who enjoy taking the bus just as much as him.

He isn’t a frequent flyer, and so is pretty nervous about our flight to the United States, but he calmed down once I told him how many walks I plan to take him on during my study exchange. Something that he is excited about is to learn how differently things work in Florida, and I am looking forward to making him lose quite a bit of that newly added car weight during our time away.

He did get a little bit worried when I told him that we were travelling to a brand new place, but I made sure to ease his worries by telling him that we can still do lots of our favourite things whilst we are there. One of his favourite games is fetching the recycling to put it in the correct bin, and he can’t wait to try it with some new American packaging. He was also very happy to hear about how warm it is over there, and is excited to get to spend time outside instead of relying on indoor heating, as well as making use of the natural lighting that we will get from the bright Floridian sunshine.

All in all, I’m very proud of my carbon footprint. He really is remarkably small, especially considering that he will be turning twenty in just a few months time. He obviously isn’t perfect, but I’m okay with that, because I know that he works very hard each and every day to be the best that he possibly can be in a world where he is surrounded by such large and intimidating carbon footprints.
