This is Stanley, say hi, Stanley!
Hii!
Stanley the stamp loves to travel.
He’s told stories about all the wonderful places he’s been to, such as Australia and Italy.
But, says Stanley,
I have a message too.
Would you be happy for me to quickly chat with you?
I love to travel and see new things,
But I’ve noticed some humans need help living sustainably.
Soon I will travel to Brazil,
And will be walking even uphill!
Cutting CO2 is really important to me,
And supports sustainability goal number 13!
Taking action in big ways and small,
Supporting the environment and the world.
But Stanley, what else can we do?
I’m more than happy to take some advice from you!
Sustainability goal number 4 describes,
How can we do better to survive.
Education is the key to success,
helping us to reduce world stress.
You can be more deliberate with what you buy,
Taking action to ask why.
Is it recyclable or only one-use?
Make sure the products are kind to the new youth.
Stanley, I’ll be honest, all this talk is making me nervous…
I’m worried about not doing enough, and I’ll be careless.
Don’t panic! Says Stanley with a big smile,
I can teach you more in just a short while!
If you aren’t sure, how can you help some more,
I have an acronym that won’t make it feel like a chore!
Just remember: KIND
K is for kindness,
Remember it all the time,
Especially when you interact with nature,
Or cultures different to mine.
I is for independent,
You don’t have to follow the crowd!
Have a look at local businesses,
those that are well-renowned.
N is for necessity,
Do you need it?
Think about the world and how you want to leave it.
D is for development,
Sustainability can be a journey.
Starting today might not be easy but it will help protect every species.
So now do you see?
Thinking sustainably can be so easy!
When I go on my exciting visit to beautiful Brazil
I too will be taking action to be sustainable
Taking shorter showers
And visiting local wonders
It’s about acting with compassion
Don’t forget that pre-adventure shop.
Don’t rely on fast fashion even if it’s trending hot.
Have a look at your local charity shop
For some treasures that might have been dropped off.
Upcycling can be fun and creative.
Something I love to do,
making my clothes adaptive and feel brand new
I can’t wait for you to experience the world
It’s going to be such an adventure
With wonderful people and nature.
And so with that Stanley grabbed his coat and his hat
I am off for my new adventure
But don’t worry, says Stanley, ill be back!
Stanley walked to the station with his head held high,
Happy he could help and guide someone on how they can try.
I will remember what he said to me, about always being KIND and getting things out of necessity.
