Hopes of a sustainable travel.

Travel has always been an exciting opportunity for me to discover new cultures, but it also raises important questions about environmental impact.
When I planned my international placement in Aberdeen, Scotland, I was aware that flying was not the most sustainable option. However, given the distance and time constraints, it remained the most practical choice. Acknowledging this limitation pushed me to think more critically about how I could reduce my environmental footprint once I arrived.

Sustainability is already part of my daily life. In Mulhouse (my hometown), I mainly use public transport, especially buses, to commute to university and for my studies, only relying on a car when absolutely necessary. This habit reflects my broader commitment to more responsible consumption and mobility. Bringing these values with me to Aberdeen was absolutely essential.
Once in Scotland, I will make a conscious effort to adopt eco-friendly practices. I will prioritise walking and using public transport instead of taxis or private vehicles. I hope that I can support local businesses and consume seasonal products, reducing the environmental cost associated with imported goods. Additionally, I will pay attention to limiting waste, recycling whenever possible, buying second-hand and being mindful of energy and water use in my accommodation which I alread try to do here in France.
These actions, although simple, align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. For instance, using public transport contributes to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by reducing urban pollution. Being mindful of consumption habits supports SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), while reducing my overall carbon footprint is linked to SDG 13 (Climate Action). Even small, individual choices can collectively make a meaningful difference.

I hop3 this experience will show me that sustainable travel is not about being perfect, but about being aware and making better choices whenever possible. While I could not avoid flying, I will take responsibility for my actions before and during my stay. It reinforce my belief that sustainability should not be an afterthought but an integral part of how we explore the world.
