London Gatwick to Bergen
2 hour flight directs
The 4th most sustainable city
Global destination sustainable index
But why has the city this position
What makes it so green?
In this poem I will describe
The sustainable things I’ve seen
Public transport is accessible to all
Bus tram boat and train
All included in a Skyss ticket
Getting around is quick and no pain
Fossil free transport by 2030
That’s the city’s ambition
You see more electric cars than not
It’s obvious there’s a transition
Travel by bike that’s an option too
The world’s longest bicycle tunnel
3 km under a mountain
Cycle lanes are certainly done well
Another option is to e-scooter
Pick one up from a parking station
“Voi-er” is a new word in Norwegian
Meaning use of this transportation
Food waste is a hot topic in Bergen
Skillingbolle is the taste of the city
Left overs are put on TooGoodToGo
Or even given out in public for free
Vegetarian options are aplenty
Restaurants have them on the menu
And supermarkets have them too
Often available at good value
Recycling is another key focus
All plastics can be recycled if clean
People can even earn money
Disposing with the pant scheme
The circular economy is obvious
With numerous second hand shops
Used clothes become more popular
People prefer sustainable tops
Sustainability features in education
With many modules at uni
As well as conferences and events
This topic generates lots of curiosity
Green spaces are central to the city
Surrounded by 7 mountains
Nature is intertwined with Bergen
From peaks to parks with fountains
Sustainable energy is aplenty
As hydroelectric power is dominant
97% renewable energy
One of the highest on the continent
Have I become more sustainable
I would say have to yes
I’m now more conscious of my life Transport, food, waste, using less
But behind this all is a huge paradox
Fossil fuel emissions exported away
Norway is Europe’s top oil producer
Funding the sustainability display
